Since exposure to the mercury vapor and particulate matter can be entirely or almost entirely prevented all dentists should immediately be required to protect their patients and staff from this avoidable toxic exposure. The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology developed patient protection protocols based upon fundamental primary research more than 20 years ago and so far the dental profession in the United States has steadfastly refused to comply.
While it is true that drilling out an old amalgam releases a large toxic cloud of mercury vapor and minute respirable particles of amalgam there is little evidence to suggest that placement of new amalgams is without exceptional risk of harm. Newly mixed amalgam continuously release a large amount of mercury during the first 48 hours and then it gradually tapers off to what is shown in this video. As a result, a huge mercury dose if spread over time.
Initially the drilling from the amalgam-removal would release more mercury than under the placement-procedure, but in the long run (years), the accumulative effect (especially in the CNS) from the constant release of mercury would certainly exceed the amount released under the placement.
Obviously any ADA spokesman would say that removing your amalgam filling is hazardous and unethical. I would turn it around and say the opposite; it is unethical to place amalgam in any human being, when a fully adequate material exist (fully functional composites have existed for nearly 20 years).
Only dentist who has been trained in and practise “the safe removal procedure” stated by IAOMT should be allowed to drill out amalgam.
No, it is an independent site founded by a doctor seeking to correct crazy ideas like homeopathy and other psuedoscience in medicine. They are a great source for information independent of both the “alternative” medicine crowd and “big pharma.”
The Karolinska commission of experts included only one dentists, Lars Freiberg. All the others were PhDs or MDs and yes they reported their determination that we should eliminate mercury as a restorative material in 1987. Socialstyrelsen report May 20, 1987 as reported in Svenska Dagbladet Bioprobe Vol 4 6/87 issue 3
In 1991 WHO stated that 2/3 of the mercury in the human being comes from amalgam - offcourse this only goes for people with amalgam in their mouth. So what you see in this video sequence, is the initial beginning before mercury is being absorbed in the lungs.
My concern is not for an adult, the data is not convincing that amalgams can cause health problems in adults. I am worried about a growing fetus, and the mothers mercury load. If you removed amalgams before having the baby, I think it would help prevent accumulation in the fetus, as the old mercury in the mothers tissues would not spread, but new mercury sources could like amalgam sources and certain types of fish etc…does this make sense? Amalgams switched before child bearing?
Possibly, plus if you have heavy metal poisoning it does not go away the moment you remove the source, it stays in your system for years. People who felt better IMMEDIATELY after having them removed must have some other health problem.
The danger of mercury fillings and what is happening in these videos are probably totally separate phenomena. I probably will pay more for different fillings in the future, but this video PROVES nothing.
I believe the outdoor atmosphere is a dynamic system constantly mixing itself and therefore never settling the way water in a bottle does or air in a sealed room does. Plus there are the constant chemical recations making and busting apart those simple molecules.
Important question: Is the exposure risk during amalgam replacement so high that it is not worth doing?
Sweden is the first country to become mercury-free. They have dogs trained to find mercury and have collected tons of waste mercury and placed it is permanent storage. They determined that it would be unethical for them to resell their mercury on the world market as it would get back into the environment and poison others as it has in Sweden.
